The Art of Kaketsugi
Kaketsugi — a method where missing fabric threads are recreated and rewoven to make a repair indistinguishable from the original.
At Thread Lab, every restoration begins with observation — studying the fabric’s weave, color, and texture under magnification. Using traditional Japanese tools and techniques, individual threads are harvested, prepared, and invisibly interwoven into the damaged area. The result is seamless — no patch, no trace, only continuity.
This process demands more than skill; it requires mindfulness. Each repair is performed slowly, with the same care that went into crafting the original textile.
Through Kaketsugi, we honor the maker’s hand, the wearer’s memory, and the enduring life of the fabric itself.
“In Kaketsugi, perfection is not visible — it’s felt.”
